So here we go with the Government Shutdown. Is it Trump’s fault? Is it Chuck’s fault?
Well, given that Trump hasn’t been given anything to sign, I doubt that even Fake News would, no, wait… it’s the TRUMP SHUTDOWN. Kek.
Not that Trump cares. He’s got three years to go until the next general election, and a golden opportunity to get the Wall built.
How so, you might ask, when his own party is an ungovernable rabble, but the other side don’t want him to have anything nice? Never mind the Wall, most Dems would probably spit in his coffee.
Well for the Republicans it’s a pretty shabby look, owning both houses and still shutting the government down. Never mind that they needed 60 votes in the Senate and only have 51. They can’t let this go on for too long.
For the Dems it’s all gravy right now, but if they don’t get a deal done on DACA in the next 60 days then the Dreamers go home.
Right now it’s not really the Trump Shutdown, but it could be. He won’t Amnesty the Dreamers without the Wall. Even that may be a bridge too far for his supporters.
Trump has said in the past that he loves the Dreamers, which is a pretty clear indication that if the Dems, or some combination of the Dems and the Amnesty Republicans offer him a spending bill with the Wall in exchange for DACA Amnesty then Trump would happily sign off on it.
Trump is going to take a massive hit with his Base if he does though.
The guys who cried when he hit Assad with a few missiles and sent the embassy to Jerusalem are no great loss, and I doubt that Trump cares what they think, but Amnesty is a different matter.
Amnesty is a bitter pill to swallow for his core supporters.
If any issue can bring Bannon back from the dead, it will be this. The Reagan Amnesty turned Cali Blue, the Trump Amnesty will see Texas go. This is pretty much the last stand of the coalition who put Trump into office, and they won’t go quietly.
The government shutdown is here, and there is plenty of fanatical support for and against Amnesty on both sides.
Expect protests from the Left, and Steve Bannon out on the streets with a bullhorn too. If I was Trump, I’d just stay in bed for the next 60 days and watch the Gorilla channel.
Full disclosure: John Miller’s IRL name is Frank Faulkner. I’m an Aussie and when I’m not obsessing about Conservative politics or defending Trump I also enjoy various sports and Christian activities. Somehow I ended up in the Anime Right in 2016 because of Trump, kek.
